How To Submit PSAs To KRKV 107.3 FM
What are PSAs?
Public Service Announcements (PSA) are short – usually 30 seconds- announcements that provide information to the public. PSAs are a non-commercial announcement that contain information that benefits the listening audience rather than the company or organization that created it. Most PSAs are produced by nonprofit organizations, but commercial, for-profit organizations may also use PSAs to promote nonprofit activities and events. PSAs provide information to the public whereas an ad promotes the sale of a product.
Contain information that benefits the community.
Contain a public phone number, web address and/or email address for further information.
PSAs DO NOT:
Typically announce fund raising events for the financial benefit of the sponsoring organization.
Promote, endorse, or call to action.
Use phrases that directly advocate participation. For example “Be There” or “Join Us”
PSAs must meet federal and local rules and regulations or they will not be aired on KRKV.
Length of PSAs
PSAs should be 30 seconds in length, which is about 80 words or less.
When will your PSA be aired?
PSAs are generally aired on KRKV from 3 to 6 times a day at the station's discretion.
2 ways to create a PSA
Read-Aloud Script- organizations can provide KRKV with a PSA script to be read by KRKV
Volunteers. If you are announcing a scheduled or regularly occurring event, be sure to include your organization's name, contact person, contact information, dates, and times. All information should be reasonably read within 30 seconds. Scripts that are to be read by KRKV volunteers should not use first person pronouns such as “us” or “our”.
Audio- your organization or group can record your PSA, you can incorporate music and sound effects. All audio PSAs must be of broadcast quality and be in mp3 file format, and include all the information contained in a read-aloud script.
All PSAs submitted must have a “kill date” or a date that tells KRKV when to stop airing your PSA.
How soon to submit PSAs
Both read-aloud scripts and pre-recorded PSAs should be received 7 day prior to the air date.
